TNPresident Esther M. Lee is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Tomacene Nickens as the Advisor for the Liberty High and Freedom High School NAACP Youth Councils.

Mrs. Nickens is a 1969 graduate of Liberty High School and attended Cheyney University. 

Her career began with Bethlehem Area School District in 1974 as a teacher assistant at Buchanan Elementary School, continuing at Northeast and Broughal Middle schools.  Mrs. Nickens served twelve (12) years in Bethlehem School District as a Coordinator of the After School Partnership for Instruction, Recreation and Enrichment (ASPIRE) program at Thomas Jefferson and William Penn Elementary Schools.  With vision, energy and enthusiasm for teaching Mrs. Nickens approached each day with the highest of professional standards; carrying high the torch of education with skill and dedication, virtues which she readily and genuinely displayed.  In so doing she greatly enhanced her experience and quality of education for the children in her care.

Mrs. Nickens serves at the 2nd Vice President of the Bethlehem Unit, Vice President of J. F. Goodwin Scholarship Fund.  She served as chairwoman for the NAACP ACT-SO program at the LHS and FHS. 

In 2007 she was recognized as the Bethlehem YWCA Woman of the Year.  In addition, she served with Miss Pennsylvania Scholarship Organization. 

Mrs. Nickens is married to Brian and are parents to three adult children and three grandchildren.
